Bing (formerly Live Search, Windows Live Search, and MSN Search) is the current web search engine (advertised as a “decision engine”)^[2] from Microsoft. Bing was unveiled by Microsoft CEO Steve Ballmer on May 28, 2009 at the All Things Digital conference in San Diego. It went fully online on June 3, 2009,^[3] with a preview version released on June 1, 2009. By August 2009, Bing had gained 9.3 percent of the United States Internet search market.^[4] However, by September, StatCounter stated that Bing’s share of the US search market in September had fallen by almost one percentage point to 8.51%.^[5] Comscore claimed otherwise, stating that Bing’s growth had held steady in September 2009, gaining 0.1 percent of the total United States Internet Search Market representing a market share of 9.4 percent.^[6] in October 2009 Bing’s search share increased to 9.9%[3]

Notable changes include the listing of search suggestions in real time as queries are entered and a list of related searches (called “Explorer pane” on the left side of search results) based on^{[citation needed]} semantic technology from Powerset which Microsoft purchased in 2008^{[citation needed]}. Bing also includes the ability to Save & Share search histories via Windows Live SkyDrive, Facebook and email.

On July 29, 2009, Microsoft and Yahoo! announced a deal in which Bing would power Yahoo! Search.^[7]

Google search is a web search engine owned by Google Inc. and is the most-used search engine on the Web.^[3] Google receives several hundred million queries each day through its various services.^[4] Google search was originally developed by Larry Page and Sergey Brin in 1997.^[5]
